I had a great opportunity last week to deliver a workshop at The Piece Hall in Halifax. I currently have work in the Piece Hall Gallery as part of The Yorkshire Christmas Crackers Exhibition and it was a lovely opportunity for me to share some of my techniques.
We met in the Gallery where I gave a brief talk about my work, then we moved to The Hive, a superb workshop space. The participants were invited to choose their own drawing stick or several sticks from the collection I had foraged on a walk the day before. We worked through a few exercises to get going before they went onto develop their own ideas into concertina drawings.
I loved how everyone become immersed in their drawings and kept going throughout the session with extra drawings until the last few minutes. It was very inspiring for me and so joyful to see personalities expressed through stick & ink drawings. One of my favourite parts was the excitement shared throughout the room, when I said "Of course you can take your drawing sticks home with you!".
